What Makes Marina, Marina?

I’ve never really known how to answer the question, “Tell me about yourself.” At twenty-three, I don’t think life is about having everything figured out. I think it’s about staying curious.

The more I experience, the more I realize I love learning—about people, places, ideas, and the stories that shape them. That’s what draws me to creativity. Whether I’m building this website from scratch, getting lost in a novel, taking photographs, or creating content for work, I’m always asking the same question:

How can I tell this story in a way people will remember?

I grew up working in my family’s restaurant, where I’ve spent years meeting people from every walk of life. Since I was sixteen, I’ve learned that every conversation teaches you something if you’re willing to listen. Managing a restaurant strengthened my leadership, organization, and communication skills, but more importantly, it taught me to understand people. Some days you’re solving problems, some days you’re celebrating milestones with guests, and other days you’re simply making someone feel welcome. Those moments matter.

Books have shaped me just as much. Reading isn’t an escape for me—it’s an invitation to imagine. I love noticing the details authors use to make a place feel alive, and it’s those details that inspire how I photograph, design, and create. Stories have taught me that beauty often lives in the smallest moments.

Photography has become another way I tell stories. I love capturing genuine emotion, quiet moments, and the little things that often go unnoticed. A photograph can preserve a feeling long after the moment has passed, and I think that’s something special.

As I step into a new season of life, I’m excited to move beyond food service and into work where I can create, design, and build meaningful experiences. I don’t expect to have my entire future mapped out, and honestly, I hope I never stop discovering new passions along the way.

If there’s one thing I know about myself, it’s this:

I’m happiest when I’m learning, creating something from nothing, and helping people see the beauty in the stories around them.
